History of Pinckney

Pinckney was one of the original settlements in Livingston County. Around 1836, William Kirkland wanted to start a new township. One that would not only serve the needs of the people but also be located in the wilderness of Michigan so he purchased the land that is now Pinckney. What he dreamed of then is what Pinckney remains today; a small village where everybody is friendly and they are always happy to share a smile. Many of the original Pinckney properties are located on the same piece of land that Kirkland originally purchased from Colonel Peterson.
